Title: Connecting Social Justice, Multiculturalism and Sustainability in Counsellor Education
Presenter: Dr. José F. Domene
Bio: Dr. José F Domene is a Professor of counselling psychology in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary, in Canada. He has 18 years of experience teaching graduate students to become counsellors and psychologists. Dr. Domene has two main research areas: (a) the relational contexts of career development and (b) technology and wellbeing. He is also a practicing psychologist, whose counselling work focuses on the intersection of career-life and mental health concerns.

In this interactive workshop, Dr. Domene will present practical ways for practicing counsellors, counselling students and counsellor educators to incorporate social justice concepts into their work. Participants will be invited to critically reflect on different ways to conceptualize social justice and to identify personally meaningful strategies to implement social justice concepts into counselling practice as a way to expand our ability help people. Implications for professional ethics and scope of practice will also be discussed. Throughout this workshop, Dr. Domene will share experiences from the Canadian context and invite attendees to consider what is and is not relevant for counselling in Taiwan
